Walking Through the Scriptures

Online Bible Study - Hebrews

In “What the Bible is All About,” Dr. Henrietta Mears says that Hebrews Portrays Jesus Christ, Our Intercessor at the Throne. If the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) describe Christ’s ministry on earth, Hebrews describes Christ’s ministry now in heaven at God’s right hand.

The Book of Hebrews was written to the Christian Jews who were discouraged and beginning to doubt and give up on the faith, although the human author of Hebrews is unknown.

The Jewish Christians were suffering persecution for clinging to Jesus by faith. They were wondering if it was truly worth it when all they would have to do was to go back to the Old Testament faith, renounce Christ, and then the temptation and suffering would end.

The Book of Hebrews endeavors to lead the immature believer to maturity – letting go of the Old Testament promises to embrace the reality of a living Jesus Christ. We could spend months studying the truths discussed in this book, but we will present these truths in 31 days. When reading and studying the book of Hebrews, you will be impressed that it is predominately about Jesus the Christ. Not all books in the Bible can boast that. Christ means “the Anointed One.” The key thought in Hebrews is how “superior” or “better” Jesus Christ is to all things.
